The FIAT AND GABRIELLI AIRCRAFT PRODUCED
IN THOSE DAYS
The
most beautiful aircraft of Ing. Gabrielli: the fiat G55. This WWII
fighter, powered by a Daimler Benz 605 engine was produced also
after the end of the war, for italian air force and for Argentina
and Syria
A 55 B (biposto-
two seater). the g55b was the twin seater version of the g55.
Very beautiful indeed and it was powered by a DB 605. This inverted
engine gave all the italian series 5 figthers (Reggiane Re
2005-Macchi MC 205V-Fiat G55) an extremely clean shape that it's
difficult to beat. These aircraft were really beautiful..
The Fiat G59
was basically a G55 modified to fit the Merlin engine. The DB605
engine was not avaiable anymore and the idea was to switch to
the more reliable Rolls Royce Merlin. The same aircraft changed
completely. In the fifties many g59 were produced. It was used
as an advanced trainer and the single seat version was the last
piston fighter produced in italy.
An interesting picture of the Fiat
Production of that years. All the aircraft were designed by Ing.
Gabrielli: the jet G-80, the Merlin powered G59 and the fiat G49,
that never entered in production, and last the G46.
Another Fiat factory
picture. The Fiat G-80 in three different versions, with different
engines. The G-80 was never adopted by the Italian Air force and
remained at an experimental stage.
