* 210 to 225 mph has been attained by a number of aircraft with full gear doors, gap seals, etc. ** Estimated. Flight performance of first 180hp aircraft confirms these estimates. The Falco (Italian for "Hawk") is a resurrection of a circa 1955 Italian sportplane design. It is a 2-place single engine aircraft of wood construction, with a bubble canopy and retractable gear. The original design was produced as a certified aircraft of Italian manufacture, and was type certified in the US under CAR3 in the normal, utility, and acrobatic categories. 101 of the Italian production versions were built through the late 1960s, many of these are still flying today. The initial Falco design was created by Dr. Stelio Frati, whose most well known design is probably the Siai-Marchetti SF.260. Dr. Frati is still active with the General Avia design office in Milan.
